The gift is to be a magnet.

Why?

  1. The gift is designed to uplift the receivers each time they see it. A magnet seems more likely to be put in a location where it is seen often rather than put in a drawer somewhere.

  2. It should have practical use.

    1. As mentioned above, it should be uplifting

    2. Additionally, it should be beautiful - enhancing the aesthetic of whatever room it is in

    3. And it should be functional - useable for the things for which magnets may be used.

  3. The gift should be small in size

  4. The gift should be relatively financially inexpensive

    • With everything included (features, packaging, tax, shipping, etc), I think we can go all out and still keep the price under $50. I’d like to enable those who don’t have lots of money to give it.

  5. No one does it, so it will be unique.

    • Ok, so maybe someone somewhere makes extremely high quality magnets, but if so they’re uncommon... I’ve never seen one.

  6. Because no one does it, we can craft something world-class.

    • Because there isn’t much of a high-end magnet category, there isn’t much competition in the high-end magnet category. We should be able to craft a world-class magnet and have it available for less than $50. There aren’t too many world-class anythings that are available for that price.

  7. We can hopefully automate and scale the process

    • Part of the goal is quality and consistency at scale.

  8. Personalization

    • I like the idea of putting each person’s name on it. In this case, not only would the receiver receive a beautiful, uplifting magnet - but they would receive a beautiful, uplifting magnet that was manufactured specifically for them.
